God’s sovereign choice is based on His mercy. Reading verses 10-16, I see how God chooses one brother over the other. The bible says that, before they were both born, Jacob was God’s sovereign choice over his brother.
In Genesis 27, we read how Jacob stole his brother’s blessing with the encouragements of his mother. Prior to that, in Genesis 25:29-34, Esau sold his birth right to Jacob for a bowl of soup. Would we say that this is a coincidence? The Lord said to the mother that the older would be subject to the younger brother.
Then, Esau gave to his younger brother rights of being the older brother. This tells us that it had not much importance to him. Jacob later took the blessing that was for Esau because he now was the older brother as a consequence of Esau selling his birthright. The blessing had to go to Jacob because of the trade that was done.
When we continue to read the story, we see that Jacob fled because his bother was angry with him. We don’t see where God punished Jacob for doing what he did, instead he grew closer to God and later became Israel.
The mother led Jacob to steal the blessings of his brother probably because she remembered what God said to her.
God chooses who He wants to use and how. This gives me peace in knowing that I am God’s sovereign choice. After all that Jacob did, his life did not stop at the theft but developed into a beautiful encounter with the Lord. This because the Lord had predestined him to rulership. This is not to condone wrongdoing. When we know what is right, we must practice it. God is not mocked (Galatians 6:7), anyone deliberately sinning will be punished by Him.
After the many errors and mistakes I have made, the Lord never dwelled on them instead calling me to rise for the work ahead that is awaiting me. I had given up on me and thought that God could change His mind on me but His reckless love has not left my side one bit.
I have come to the point of accepting that rejection is part of the journey to greatness just like that of Joseph. The mistakes, pains, grief are all part of our stories to demonstrate how God can redeem His own. Yes, we may not be always people’s choice or favourite nevertheless God’s sovereign choice and that’s all that matters.
LESSON
Know your worth because otherwise you will make the wrong choices
Our life choices reveal our self-worth and if we know our identity
Build faith in God because that which He intended shall surely come to pass only if we wait on Him.
